A temporary retention pond valued at RM12 million has been proposed as a short-term intervention to address recurring flood issues affecting the Sungai Buloh region, according to Human Resources Minister R Ramanan.
The pond will function as a holding facility for excess water during heavy rainfall periods, providing immediate relief while authorities work toward permanent solutions. The initiative is designed to complement ongoing efforts to tackle the root causes of seasonal inundation in the area.
The temporary measure is expected to remain operational pending the completion of two major flood mitigation projects centred on Sungai Buloh and Sungai Damansara. These comprehensive initiatives are intended to provide long-term resilience against flooding in the affected communities.
The announcement reflects growing concerns over flood management in the Klang Valley region, where seasonal monsoons and urbanisation have intensified drainage challenges. Officials have emphasised the need for both immediate interventions and sustained infrastructure improvements to protect residents and economic assets.
