The RM400 million allocation represents a significant investment in urban greening, with the funds earmarked for the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) to develop new parks and recreational areas across Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.
Minister Yeoh emphasised that the initiative underscores the government's priority in improving residents' quality of life in urban centres. The green spaces are expected to provide residents with accessible recreational facilities while contributing to environmental sustainability and climate resilience in densely populated areas.
The 120 new green spaces will vary in scale and design, catering to different community needs across the federal territories. Officials indicated the projects would be rolled out progressively, with implementation timelines to be coordinated between federal and city authorities.
This funding forms part of broader urban development efforts to make Malaysia's major cities more liveable and environmentally conscious, addressing growing concerns about green space deficits in rapidly urbanising regions.
