RMG workers stage protest in Ashulia, clash with police

Workers from Bangladesh's ready-made garment sector clashed with police in Ashulia on Wednesday, as demonstrations in the industrial area turned volatile. The protesters engaged in direct confrontations with law enforcement personnel deployed to contain the situation.

During the course of the protests, a vehicle was set on fire, adding to concerns about the scale of unrest in the garment manufacturing hub. The incident prompted an immediate police response to restore order in the area.

Authorities detained two individuals in connection with the disturbances. The identities and specific charges against those held were not immediately disclosed.

The garment industry, a cornerstone of Bangladesh's economy, has periodically witnessed labor unrest related to wages, working conditions, and employment practices. Ashulia, home to numerous manufacturing facilities, has been the site of previous worker demonstrations.
