Rohit Yadav eyes Asian Games medal as Chopra sits out injured

Rohit Yadav acknowledges the enormous shoes he must fill following Neeraj Chopra's withdrawal from the continental athletics championship, but the rising Indian javelin thrower remains optimistic about his prospects at the Asian Games.

Chopra's absence creates an unexpected opportunity for the 25-year-old from Dabhiya village in Uttar Pradesh, though Yadav is realistic about the challenge ahead. "I am not taking any pressure although I know people are expecting a lot from me," Yadav said in an interview. "It is not good that Neeraj is not there but we have to accept that. I know I won't be able to take his place but will try and get a podium place."

Yadav's form has improved markedly in recent weeks. While he managed only 81.56 metres at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow earlier this year, he recorded a personal best of 87.68 metres at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet in Bhubaneswar on August 22. The athlete is confident he can build on that performance when competition begins on September 19.

"I will try to give my best throw to be among medal winners," Yadav said, emphasizing his determination to deliver at the continental showpiece in Japan. The javelin thrower's preparation and recent improvements suggest he is well-positioned to make a meaningful challenge in the absence of India's Olympic gold medallist.
