Romblon suspends climbing at Mt. Guiting-Guiting for three-month ecological recovery

CALAPAN CITY — The Protected Area Management Office of Mt. Guiting-Guiting Natural Park in Romblon province has announced a comprehensive suspension of mountaineering activities effective November 1, 2026, through January 31, 2027.

The three-month closure is designed to allow comprehensive rehabilitation of the mountain's flora and fauna ecosystems. Park management officials determined the intervention necessary to restore ecological conditions and ensure the long-term sustainability of the protected area's natural resources.

The decision affects all regular mountaineering operations at the popular destination, which attracts climbers from across the region. The management office cited the need for focused environmental restoration efforts during the specified period.

Following the conclusion of the rehabilitation initiative on January 31, 2027, authorities plan to reinstate standard mountaineering operations at the natural park. The phased approach aims to balance recreational access with ecological preservation at the protected area.
