Ronaldo welcome to return to Portugal squad, says coach Jesus

Coach Jesus has signalled an open door for Ronaldo's potential comeback to the Portuguese national team, suggesting the veteran forward has not permanently severed ties with the squad. The statement comes days after the five-time Ballon d'Or winner withdrew from the team's roster following a decision to bench him for the Denmark fixture.

Ronaldo's departure marked a significant moment in Portuguese football, given his storied status as the country's all-time leading international goal scorer. The decision to leave the squad rather than accept a substitute role highlighted tensions between the ageing superstar and the coaching staff regarding his playing position.

Jesus's remarks indicate flexibility in the relationship between player and federation, leaving the path open for reconciliation. The statement suggests that any future recall would depend on Ronaldo's willingness to return to the squad under the current coaching regime's terms.

The situation reflects broader questions about player expectations and squad dynamics at international level, particularly as elite athletes navigate the transition into their later playing years. Ronaldo's next move will likely influence Portugal's approach as the team prepares for upcoming fixtures.
