RoS and Home Ministry Challenge Court Stay on PN Deregistration
Malaysia's Registrar of Societies and Home Ministry have filed an appeal against a High Court decision that temporarily halted the deregistration of Perikatan Nasional. The move signals the government's determination to proceed with the party's removal from the register.

The Registrar of Societies (RoS) director-general Zulfikar Ahmad and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail have formally appealed against the High Court's decision to grant a stay of execution on the deregistration of Perikatan Nasional (PN), according to a notice of appeal filed by the authorities.
The notice indicates that both officials are dissatisfied with the court's ruling, which temporarily prevented the enforcement of PN's deregistration. The appeal represents an escalation in the legal proceedings surrounding the opposition coalition's status as a registered political entity.
The case centres on whether the RoS had the authority to deregister PN and the legal grounds for such action. The High Court's decision to grant the stay effectively paused the deregistration process pending the outcome of PN's challenge to the government's move.
With the appeal now filed, the matter is expected to proceed through Malaysia's appellate courts. The outcome will have significant implications for PN's ability to operate as a registered political party and contest in future elections.
Neither the RoS nor the Home Ministry has issued further public comment on the specific grounds of their appeal at this time.
