Royals call for unity and peace as Malaysia marks founding day
The King and Queen of Malaysia have issued Malaysia Day greetings, urging the nation to strengthen bonds of unity and work towards lasting peace. Their Majesties' message comes as the country commemorates its formation on September 16.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — Their Majesties Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah have extended greetings to Malaysians on the nation's founding day, emphasising the importance of harmony and cohesion among the diverse population.
The King and Queen's message reflects the traditional emphasis placed on national unity during the annual Malaysia Day commemoration, which marks the formation of the Malaysian federation on September 16, 1963.
Their Majesties called upon Malaysians to continue strengthening the bonds that unite the nation's various communities, cultures and backgrounds. The royal message underscored the significance of maintaining peace and stability as the country progresses.
Malaysia Day is observed annually as a public holiday to commemorate the formation of the federation through the union of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore, with the latter subsequently separating in 1965.
