RPG Life Sciences allocates ₹500 crore for acquisition push

RPG Life Sciences is gearing up for another major acquisition, with the drugmaker setting aside ₹500 crore to fund the deal within the coming year. The move reflects the company's confidence in consolidation as a growth strategy within India's competitive pharma sector.

The acquisition plan forms part of RPG Life Sciences' broader expansion roadmap for its active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) division. The company is targeting 25 per cent annual growth in this segment over the next five years, positioning itself for increased market share in both domestic and international markets.

APIs represent a crucial component of pharmaceutical manufacturing, serving as the core therapeutic elements in finished drug formulations. By bolstering its API capabilities through acquisitions, RPG Life Sciences aims to strengthen its supply chain resilience and reduce dependence on external suppliers, a strategic priority for Indian pharmaceutical companies.

The planned capital deployment underscores a broader trend among domestic pharma majors to pursue inorganic growth strategies. With ₹500 crore available for deployment, the company has positioned itself to acquire mid-sized API manufacturers or specialty chemical producers that can complement its existing operations.

RPG Life Sciences' acquisition strategy aligns with industry consolidation patterns as larger players seek to control costs, expand production capacity, and capture emerging opportunities in high-margin API segments serving regulated markets like the United States and Europe.
