RSS Chief Calls on Indian Diaspora to Champion Unity in Diversity

Speaking at a gathering of over 6,000 Indian-Americans and interfaith leaders at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday, Bhagwat emphasized that diversity forms the foundational fabric of India's national character. "Unity in diversity is embedded in Bharat's DNA," he said at the 'Universal Oneness Celebration' organised by the American Hindus For Engagement and Dialogue (AHEAD) forum. "It must be celebrated, respected and accepted."

Drawing a distinction between American and Indian approaches to social cohesion, Bhagwat noted that pluralism defines the United States while unity amid diversity characterises India. He invoked the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, arguing that every nation possesses a unique mission and destiny. "For Bharat, this unity and diversity are woven into our very being," he stated, underscoring India's historical role as a civilization accommodating multiple faiths, cultures and traditions.

The remarks come as Indian-Americans have increasingly assumed visible roles in public life across the United States. Bhagwat's address to the interfaith gathering reflects broader efforts by Hindu organisations to foster dialogue and bridge communities in the diaspora, while reinforcing the philosophical underpinnings of India's pluralistic tradition.
