The RTS Link is scheduled to commence passenger operations in February 2027, according to project timelines released this week. Project authorities have set an ambitious target to complete all system testing and operational trial phases by December 31, 2024, paving the way for the final phases of commissioning ahead of the launch date.
The rail link will connect Bukit Cheras in Kuala Lumpur with Woodlands in Singapore, providing a direct mass rapid transit corridor between the two countries. The project represents a significant infrastructure investment aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and reducing travel times for daily commuters crossing the Malaysia-Singapore border.
Completion of testing phases during the final weeks of 2024 will allow project teams to address any outstanding technical issues and conduct final safety validations. The February 2027 target provides a buffer period for any adjustments needed before the system enters regular commercial service.
The RTS Link has been under development for several years as a joint initiative between Malaysian and Singaporean authorities. The project is expected to handle substantial passenger volumes upon opening, with capacity to accommodate growing demand for efficient cross-border travel between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore's northern region.
