RTS Link passengers can use passports, QR codes for entry

JOHOR BAHRU — Transport Minister Anthony Loke has moved to reassure potential users of the upcoming Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link that they will have flexibility in how they authenticate their identity for travel on the cross-border rapid transit system.

Loke confirmed that passengers will be able to present their passports at entry points while also having the option to use a QR code-based digital system for seamless boarding. The dual approach is intended to accommodate travellers with varying preferences and technical capabilities.

The RTS Link, a jointly-developed rail corridor connecting Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands in Singapore, represents a major infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and easing congestion at land border crossings. The service is expected to handle significant passenger volumes daily once operational.

Loke's clarification addresses earlier concerns about documentation requirements for the service, ensuring that both traditional and modern identification methods would be available to travellers. The minister did not provide a specific launch date for the service but indicated that preparations were progressing smoothly.

The RTS Link project underscores both Malaysia and Singapore's commitment to improving cross-border transportation and facilitating greater people-to-people movement between the two nations.
