Rubio confirms Ukraine interceptor delivery delays, rules out political motivation

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that interceptors purchased for Ukraine through the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) programme may not have been delivered as planned, though he dismissed suggestions of deliberate political obstruction. Speaking in Mumbai, Rubio indicated the delivery gap was a logistical matter rather than a policy decision by Washington. The PURL programme was established to expedite the supply of military equipment to Ukraine for its defence against Russian aggression. Rubio's acknowledgement comes amid ongoing scrutiny of US military aid flows to Kyiv. The US has maintained its commitment to supporting Ukraine's defence capabilities, though the timing and delivery of specific weapons systems have occasionally faced delays attributed to production constraints, shipping logistics, and coordination challenges. The interceptors in question form part of a broader package of defensive systems intended to strengthen Ukraine's air defence infrastructure.
