Ruhuna University moves to online classes amid viral fever outbreak

The administration of the University of Ruhuna announced the decision to conduct academic activities online for students of the Faculty of Agriculture, with the exception of final-year cohorts, in response to the spreading illness.

Around 30 second- and third-year students at the faculty have contracted viral fever during the past two weeks, prompting the university to implement the precautionary measure. The move aims to contain further transmission of the virus while maintaining continuity of studies for affected students.

Final-year students will continue to attend campus-based classes, as their academic schedules require in-person instruction and practical coursework. The university has not specified an end date for the online learning arrangement, indicating that the decision will remain in effect pending developments in the outbreak situation.

The viral fever outbreak at the facility comes amid broader health concerns in the region. The University of Ruhuna, located in the Southern Province, has not provided details regarding the specific strain of virus or any additional health protocols being implemented across campus.
