A ruling coalition member of parliament has pressed the government to reconsider key provisions of the proposed Food Bill, citing concerns over its potential burden on small and medium-sized food enterprises. Lim Lip Eng said the legislation required substantial modifications to ensure it does not disproportionately affect grassroots traders and vendors. The lawmaker emphasised that while food safety regulations are necessary, they must be crafted with consideration for the economic realities faced by small business operators across the country. Lim called for the immediate establishment of dedicated appeal channels to allow affected entrepreneurs to lodge grievances and seek remedies without excessive bureaucratic delay. He also urged the government to institute a fast-track review process to address concerns raised by traders and industry stakeholders. The call adds to growing pressure from business groups and opposition voices questioning aspects of the proposed legislation since its introduction to parliament.
