A tragic accident unfolded in Gwalior when a truck laden with rice broke through police barricades and struck a group of pilgrims proceeding to the Sheetla Mata Temple, officials said. The incident resulted in at least 12 fatalities, with 39 injured persons transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
According to Gwalior's Senior Superintendent of Police Dharmveer Singh, the truck went out of control after breaching the security cordons set up near the temple. The vehicle subsequently collided with the temple's outer boundary wall and main gate, leaving a trail of casualties among the assembled devotees.
The exact sequence of events leading to the loss of vehicle control remained under investigation. Emergency response teams reached the scene promptly, and rescue operations were initiated to assist the injured. The incident has prompted authorities to review safety protocols at religious sites, particularly during periods of high pilgrim footfall.
Temple management and local administration have launched a probe to determine whether standard safety measures were adequately implemented at the venue. The district administration has announced support measures for the bereaved families affected by the tragedy.
