KUALA LUMPUR — The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) has submitted a request for approximately RM4 billion in supplementary funding to support ongoing and planned road development projects across the country.
The funding request comes as the ministry disclosed that it has allocated 94 per cent of its RM2 billion 2026 budget, with most resources directed toward essential road infrastructure connecting rural and regional areas.
Ministers overseeing rural development have emphasised the critical role of road networks in bridging connectivity gaps between urban and remote communities. Road projects remain a cornerstone of the government's broader initiative to enhance economic opportunities and service delivery in underserved regions.
The ministry's substantial funding request underscores growing investment demands in Malaysia's rural infrastructure, particularly as development priorities increasingly focus on improving accessibility and stimulating economic activity in peripheral areas.
