Russia Backs India's Push for Permanent UN Security Council Seat

Mauritius has similarly voiced support for India's membership expansion bid. However, permanent seat expansion faces significant headwinds, including opposition from existing permanent members reluctant to dilute their veto powers and disagreements over which nations should be included in any reform package.

India's campaign for Security Council reform has gained traction across the Global South, though the path to realizing permanent membership remains uncertain. Comprehensive UN reform would require amending the organization's charter—a process that demands consensus among permanent members and ratification by two-thirds of UN member states, creating substantial procedural obstacles.
