Russia claims Ukraine struck two facilities at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom said Ukraine targeted two facilities at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in a drone strike, resulting in at least one fatality. According to Rosatom director general Alexei Likhachev, the attack killed a driver who was delivering food supplies to employees at the facility. The incident represents the latest in a series of attacks on the power station, which has been a flashpoint in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Zaporizhzhia plant, Europe's largest nuclear facility, has been under Russian military control since the early stages of the invasion in February 2022. Both Moscow and Kyiv have repeatedly accused each other of endangering the facility, raising international concerns about potential nuclear safety hazards. The International Atomic Energy Agency has previously warned about the risks posed by military operations near the site and called for the establishment of a nuclear safety and security zone around the plant.
