The Khoryv, a cargo ship flying the Comoros flag, was hit by what Romanian authorities say was a Russian drone while operating in the Black Sea. The vessel sank following the strike, which occurred in waters adjacent to Romania's maritime zone.
One member of the ship's crew was killed in the incident, while three others remain unaccounted for. Search and rescue operations have been initiated in the area, though details on their progress remain limited.
Romania has attributed the attack to Russian forces, adding to mounting tensions over military operations in the strategically vital Black Sea region. The incident marks another development in the ongoing conflict affecting commercial shipping lanes in the area.
The incident underscores the risks faced by merchant vessels transiting through the Black Sea, where military activity has repeatedly threatened civilian maritime traffic. Ukraine and its Western allies have previously documented numerous attacks on commercial shipping in the region.
