A senior Russian diplomat expressed optimism about the forthcoming BRICS deliberations on Friday, as preparations entered their final phase for the 18th summit scheduled to formally launch in the capital. Petr Sizov, press secretary of the Russian Embassy in India, conveyed Moscow's expectations for substantive discussions among the five-nation bloc comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Sizov's remarks reflected Russia's interest in the summit proceedings at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions affecting multiple member states. The diplomat's public comments underscored the significance Russia places on the BRICS platform as a venue for dialogue among major Global South economies.
The summit represents a key diplomatic engagement for India, which holds the rotating presidency of the bloc this year. The gathering is expected to focus on expanding BRICS cooperation across economic, security, and development sectors.
Member nations are anticipated to discuss the group's expansion plans and mechanisms for deepening intra-BRICS collaboration on issues ranging from trade to technology. The deliberations will also address global challenges where BRICS nations seek to amplify their collective voice in international forums.
