The missile strike hit the shopping centre in Pavlohrad, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, on Tuesday, according to local emergency officials. At least four people were confirmed killed in the attack, with authorities indicating the toll could rise as rescue operations continued at the damaged site.
Pavlohrad, situated roughly 360 kilometres southeast of Kyiv, has faced repeated Russian strikes in recent months as Moscow's forces target civilian and commercial facilities across Ukraine's central and eastern territories. The shopping centre strike represents the latest in a series of attacks on non-military targets in populated areas.
Ukrainian officials have consistently accused Russian forces of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure in violation of international humanitarian law. Moscow has denied intentionally striking civilian sites, claiming it only targets military-related installations.
The attack on Pavlohrad comes amid broader Russian efforts to degrade Ukraine's economy and disrupt daily life in regions outside immediate frontline combat zones. Emergency services mobilised rapidly to assist those trapped or injured in the shopping centre following the strike.
