Russian strike kills 19 in Ukrainian apartment block overnight

A Russian missile strike on a residential apartment complex in northern Ukraine has claimed at least 19 lives, including five children, according to local authorities. The strike occurred during nighttime hours when families were asleep in their homes, limiting opportunities for evacuation. Emergency responders conducted search and rescue operations at the scene following the pre-dawn attack.

The missile strike completely destroyed around 30 residential units within the building, leaving survivors homeless and complicating rescue efforts. Rescue teams worked to locate additional survivors among the rubble as the extent of the damage became apparent in daylight hours. Regional officials indicated that casualty figures could rise as search operations continued.

The attack represents the latest in a sustained campaign of strikes against civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. Russian military operations have increasingly targeted residential areas and apartment blocks, resulting in significant civilian casualties since the beginning of hostilities. Ukrainian officials have documented numerous similar incidents across the country.
