Sabah Cabinet Approves 24-Hour Operations at Sepanggar Port

The Sabah state cabinet has approved 24-hour operations at Sepanggar Port, marking a significant step to enhance the facility's capacity and efficiency. The decision reflects the state government's commitment to streamlining port operations and accommodating growing cargo traffic.

Deputy Chief Minister III Ewon Benedick characterised the rising congestion at the port as a positive indicator of accelerating economic development across Sabah. The increased vessel arrivals and cargo volumes demonstrate expanding trade activity and investment momentum in the region.

The round-the-clock operational model is expected to reduce turnaround times for vessels and improve cargo handling efficiency. By extending port operations beyond standard hours, Sabah aims to maximise throughput and support businesses reliant on maritime trade.

Sepanggar Port, located near Kota Kinabalu, serves as a critical maritime hub for Sabah's trade and logistics sector. The enhanced operational capacity is anticipated to provide economic benefits across multiple industries and strengthen the state's position as a regional trade gateway.
