Sabah PAS Leader Proposes Measures to Address High Flight Costs

A member of PAS in Sabah has put forward a series of measures aimed at alleviating the burden of rising airfares on residents, particularly those requiring frequent travel to and from the state.

The proposals include introducing special discounted fares for passengers travelling due to family emergencies, as well as incentivizing advance bookings on critical routes through preferential pricing. The PAS representative also suggested extending the existing flight subsidy scheme, which currently applies during festive seasons, to encompass school holiday periods when travel demand typically increases.

The suggestions come amid growing public concern over escalating air travel costs, which have made domestic flights increasingly expensive for ordinary Malaysians. The measures appear designed to provide relief to families balancing the cost of maintaining connections across Malaysia's geographically dispersed regions.

Sabah, as an East Malaysian state, relies heavily on air connectivity to facilitate travel to Peninsular Malaysia and other regions. Extending affordability measures to school holidays would particularly benefit students and families seeking to maintain regular contact during academic breaks.
