Sabah power reliability surges under state control regime

Sabah's transition to state-regulated power management has yielded tangible gains in supply reliability, with Chief Minister Hajiji Noor citing substantial reductions in service disruption metrics. The System Average Interruption Duration Index—a key performance indicator measuring how long customers experience outages—has fallen to 226 minutes as of July this year, representing a 62 percent improvement from the 598-minute figure recorded throughout 2023.

The shift to state regulatory control represents a significant overhaul of Sabah's electricity distribution framework. Under the new governance structure, state authorities have assumed direct responsibility for overseeing the reliability and performance standards of the power supply network.

The improvement in service reliability follows a period of persistent challenges in Sabah's electricity sector.
