Tengku Zafrul, who serves as a senior political adviser to the Prime Minister, underscored the government's commitment to infrastructure development across all regions of Malaysia. He noted that the allocation of rural road budgets demonstrates the federal government's recognition of the unique geographical and developmental challenges faced by Sabah and Sarawak.
The senior adviser's statement comes as the government continues efforts to improve connectivity in remote and rural areas across the country. Rural road infrastructure is considered critical for economic development, agricultural productivity, and access to essential services in outlying communities.
According to Tengku Zafrul's remarks, Sabah and Sarawak's combined allocation represents a substantial portion of national spending priorities for rural road projects, reflecting their significance in Malaysia's broader infrastructure development strategy. The assertion aims to address concerns that East Malaysian states might receive disproportionately lower funding compared to peninsular regions.
The focus on rural road upgrades aligns with the government's broader development agenda to bridge infrastructure gaps and enhance living standards across the nation's diverse regions.
