Sabah urges bullying victims to report abuse, seek immediate help

Kota Kinabalu — The Sabah Education Department has launched a fresh push to encourage students to report bullying incidents and seek support from school authorities and counsellors. Officials stressed that victims should not suffer in silence, urging them to speak up immediately when they encounter abuse from peers. The call to action came during an anti-bullying awareness event held in the state capital on September 6. Education officials highlighted the damaging psychological and social impacts of bullying on young people, emphasising that early reporting allows schools to intervene swiftly and provide necessary support. The department also underscored the responsibility of teachers, parents and school administrators in creating safe learning environments where students feel comfortable disclosing incidents of harassment or intimidation. Authorities encouraged parents to monitor their children for signs of bullying and to maintain open communication channels with schools. The event reflected growing concerns about bullying in Malaysian schools and the need for coordinated action among stakeholders to address the problem.
