KOTA KINABALU — The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee has issued a public advisory urging residents to reduce outdoor activities as air quality levels deteriorated across multiple districts in the state on September 1.
Four districts recorded unhealthy air pollution index (API) readings, exceeding safe thresholds and posing risks to public health. The committee specifically cautioned vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions, to take precautions and minimize exposure to outdoor environments.
Officials recommended that residents monitor air quality updates regularly and consider using air purification measures at home. They advised against strenuous outdoor exercise and suggested postponing non-essential outdoor activities until air quality improves.
The advisory underscores ongoing air quality challenges in the region, which periodically affect parts of Borneo. State authorities indicated they would continue monitoring conditions and issue updated guidance as the situation develops.
