Sabalenka opens US Open title defence with convincing first-round win
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has made a strong start to her bid for an unprecedented third consecutive US Open title, dismissing Colombia's Camila Osorio in straight sets at Flushing Meadows.

Sabalenka, the top seed, overcame Osorio 6-2 6-4 in her opening match on Monday, demonstrating the form that has established her dominance in women's tennis this year. The Ukrainian player controlled the contest from the outset, breaking her opponent's serve repeatedly to secure a commanding victory in just over an hour of play.
A three-peat at the US Open would rank among the sport's rarest achievements, with the last player to win three consecutive major titles being Serena Williams in 2014-2015. Sabalenka won the New York major in 2023 and 2024, and her early-round performance suggests she remains the player to beat in this year's field.
The 26-year-old will face tougher opposition as the tournament progresses through the rounds. Her victory over Osorio, however, underscores her confidence heading into the competition and her continued ability to execute her aggressive baseline game at a high level.
