Sabarimala Aravana curbs spark devotee anger, Kerala govt responds

A restriction on Aravana sales at Sabarimala temple has ignited controversy among devotees, with criticism spreading rapidly across social media and traditional platforms. The Travancore Devaswom Board, which manages the renowned Kerala shrine, implemented a cap limiting devotees to purchasing one tin of the sacred offering per person, triggering an outpouring of discontent.

Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan acknowledged the controversy, stating that the government takes the matter seriously and views the concerns raised by pilgrims with significance.

Aravana, a rice-based dish prepared and distributed at Sabarimala, holds deep religious importance for devotees visiting the temple. The quantity restriction has prompted questions about supply availability and distribution practices at one of South India's most visited pilgrimage sites.

The controversy underscores the delicate balance temple administrations must maintain between managing resources and accommodating the expectations of millions of annual devotees. Officials have not publicly clarified the rationale behind the purchase cap or whether it represents a temporary measure.
