Preparations for the upcoming Sabarimala pilgrimage season are drawing mounting criticism as work on critical facilities remains behind schedule, with officials grappling with delays in procurement and infrastructure development.

The primary focus of concern centers on the Aravana production plant, which supplies the sacred offering prepared for devotees visiting the Pathanamthitta shrine. Sources have flagged insufficient progress on expanding and upgrading the facility, coupled with delays in securing raw materials needed for the season.

Beyond the production plant, organizers face a broader set of challenges, including slower-than-expected arrangements for accommodating and managing the large devotional crowds expected during the pilgrimage period. These delays have prompted a widening chorus of complaints from various stakeholders involved in managing the annual event.

Attempting to address growing unease, Travancore Devaswom Board President K. Jayakumar has sought to reassure stakeholders about the state of preparations. He has also dismissed reports suggesting any significant disagreement between the board and the Kerala government over readiness levels, signaling that coordination between the two entities remains intact despite the logistical challenges.
