Sacred site in Rajasthan holds key to Mahabharata legend of Bhim's humbling

In the heart of Rajasthan's Sariska forest region lies a site steeped in Mahabharata lore, where local tradition holds that one of mythology's most significant encounters took place. According to Hindu texts and local accounts, this is where the Pandava prince Bhim's pride was challenged during the period of exile that forms a critical chapter of the ancient epic.

The Pandavas are believed to have passed through the Alwar region during their year of concealment, or Agyatvas, a mandatory exile period in the Mahabharata narrative. During this passage through the Sariska forest, Bhim—renowned for his immense strength and wielding a mighty mace—is said to have encountered the deity Hanuman at this very location.

According to local tradition, the encounter was designed to humble Bhim's pride.
