Sajek Valley blockade set to begin Thursday; tourists ordered to evacuate

A blockade of Sajek Valley will commence on Thursday, officials said, with the district administration directing all tourists to leave the scenic destination immediately. Sajek Valley, a major tourist draw located in Rangamati's Baghaichhari upazila, has been placed under restrictions as part of ongoing administrative measures.

The valley, situated at an elevation of approximately 2,000 feet and known for its misty landscapes and tribal villages, attracts considerable domestic and international tourism. The blockade announcement comes amid heightened security concerns in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region.

Authorities have urged visitors currently in Sajek to depart before the blockade takes effect. The move restricts vehicular and pedestrian movement in and out of the valley, potentially affecting local businesses dependent on tourism revenue.

The administration has not specified a duration for the blockade. Similar restrictions have been imposed periodically in the region due to security and administrative reasons. Tourists are advised to check with local authorities before planning visits to the hill tracts.
