Samajwadi Party Chief Targets BJP, Promises Athletes Enhanced Benefits

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav launched a fresh attack on the BJP on Tuesday, asserting that his party would replicate its 2024 electoral victory in the state's next assembly elections scheduled for 2027.

In a bid to woo athletes and cultural performers, Yadav announced an ambitious welfare scheme promising enhanced financial support to both groups. Under the proposed initiative, athletes and artists would receive an honor stipend of 21 lakh rupees along with a monthly allowance of 50,000 rupees should the Samajwadi Party form the next government in Uttar Pradesh.

The announcement comes as the SP seeks to broaden its political appeal beyond traditional voter bases ahead of the 2027 state elections. The party has positioned itself as an alternative to the incumbent BJP administration in India's most populous state.

Ayadv's remarks signal the Samajwadi Party's intent to remain assertive in state politics while building a populist agenda centered on welfare for specific sectors. The timing of the sports and arts sector promises reflects the party's strategy to consolidate support among diverse constituencies.
