Samsung's AI appliance connections in India surge nine-fold in three years

India has emerged as one of Samsung Electronics' fastest-expanding markets for artificial intelligence-powered home appliances, marking a significant shift in the company's regional performance. According to Samsung's Vice President of Experience Planning and CX Insight Group for Digital Appliances, Bona Lee, the proliferation of connected devices reflects changing consumer preferences and growing digital adoption across Indian households.

The scale of growth has been remarkable, with newly connected Samsung appliances expanding nine-fold between 2022 and 2023. This acceleration has positioned Southwest Asia as an increasingly important region for Samsung's connected device portfolio, with the region's share of the company's worldwide connected devices climbing from 2 percent in 2022 to 13 percent by 2026.

Momentum has continued into the current year, with Samsung surpassing 2023's annual figures within just eight months. Lee attributed the sustained growth trajectory primarily to adoption among younger demographic groups, noting that 71 percent of active SmartThings users in India and Southwest Asia are aged between 20 and 39 years old, a notably higher proportion than the global average.

The trend underscores India's emergence as a key market for smart home technology, driven by rising middle-class incomes, improved internet connectivity, and increasing consumer familiarity with IoT ecosystems among urban youth populations.
