San Roque Dam in Pangasinan approaches critical spilling threshold

CALASIAO, Pangasinan – The San Roque multi-purpose dam's water level surged dramatically over a 24-hour period, climbing to within centimeters of its mandatory spilling threshold as of Monday morning.
As of 8 a.m. on Monday, August 31, the dam's reservoir elevation reached 279.85 meters above sea level, up 4.76 meters from 275.09 meters recorded the previous morning. The structure is designed to begin controlled spillage once water levels reach 280 meters above sea level.
The rapid rise in water elevation reflects significant rainfall across the Pangasinan region, which feeds into the dam's catchment area. The San Roque dam serves multiple purposes including irrigation, power generation, and flood control for downstream communities.
Dam operators continue to monitor water levels closely. When the mandatory spilling level is reached, operators will begin controlled releases to manage excess water and prevent uncontrolled overflow that could endanger communities in the lower Agno River basin.
