San Roque Dam opens gates to release excess water buildup

The San Roque Multi-Purpose Dam in Calasiao, Pangasinan will commence water discharge operations beginning Wednesday, September 2 at 8 a.m., according to an announcement by the National Power Corporation (Napocor). The facility's gates will release water at a rate of 300 cubic meters per second into the Agno River downstream.
The decision to open the dam's discharge gates comes as water elevation at the reservoir has reached levels requiring active management. Napocor indicated the controlled release is necessary to ease mounting pressure on the multi-purpose facility, which supplies power generation, irrigation, and flood control functions to the region.
The San Roque Dam, located in Pangasinan province, serves as a critical infrastructure project for the northern Luzon region. The facility helps regulate water flow during the wet season and maintains adequate supply during dry periods for agricultural and industrial uses.
