San Simon residents urge town to restore waterways to combat flooding

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — Community members in San Simon are pressing local authorities to take action on water management infrastructure they say is critical to mitigating the town's recurring flood problems.
Resident Bella Parungao has advocated for a comprehensive municipal effort to locate and restore dormant irrigation channels, road canals, creeks, rivers, and swamplands that once played a vital role in drainage systems across the area.
The appeal comes as San Simon continues to experience flooding during heavy rains, with overflow impacts extending to nearby sections of the North Luzon Expressway, a major transport corridor in Central Luzon.
Local officials have not yet formally responded to the residents' call for infrastructure rehabilitation, though water management remains a pressing concern for communities in the flood-prone region.
