MANILA — The Sandiganbayan Third Division on Monday issued an order directing the transfer of former Speaker Martin Romualdez to New Quezon City Jail in Barangay Payatas, ending his stay at Philippine General Hospital.

Associate Justice Karl Miranda signed the transfer order following medical testimony from Philippine General Hospital Director Gerardo Legaspi. The PGH chief informed the court that Romualdez had achieved medical stability and was deemed fit for transfer to the correctional facility.

The development marks a significant step in the legal proceedings involving the former House Speaker. The court's decision was based on the medical assessment confirming Romualdez's condition no longer required continued hospitalization and that he was appropriate for regular detention.

The New Quezon City Jail will now become Romualdez's place of detention pending the continuation of his legal cases before the anti-graft court.
