Sandiganbayan rejects Revilla's second bid to remove presiding judge

MANILA — The Sandiganbayan Third Division has denied the second motion filed by former Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. to remove Associate Justice Karl Miranda, the chair of the court division, from his malversation case.
In a resolution dated September 24, the antigraft court cited lack of substantial grounds in dismissing the motion for inhibition. Justice Miranda had previously denied Revilla's bail petition, prompting the former senator to seek his removal from the proceedings.
The denial represents the second unsuccessful attempt by Revilla's legal team to have the justice recuse himself from the case. Such motions typically require demonstrating apparent bias or prejudicial circumstances that would compromise judicial impartiality.
Revilla, a former senator and member of the influential Revilla political family, faces multiple counts of plunder and malversation of public funds related to alleged irregularities involving his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) allocations. The case has been under Sandiganbayan proceedings for several years.
