MANILA — The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division on Thursday maintained its earlier ruling denying Senator Jinggoy Estrada's bid for bail, rejecting arguments based on purported exceptional circumstances.
Estrada had filed a motion for reconsideration on August 3 challenging the anti-graft court's resolution that blocked his request for temporary release. The court, however, remained unconvinced by the justifications presented in support of the application.
The Fifth Division's affirmation of its previous decision represents a significant setback for Estrada's legal efforts to secure bail while his cases proceed through the justice system.
