Santner declines BBL deal to focus on India, Australia Test series

Santner turned down the opportunity to bolster his domestic cricket schedule, viewing New Zealand's international commitments as more significant at this juncture of the sporting calendar. The Adelaide Strikers had extended a competitive offer to the 32-year-old all-rounder, but he determined that his presence would be more valuable to the national team.

"When you look ahead to the summer we've got, India here for white ball and Tests and Australia away - there's not many bigger than that - it's quite an exciting time," Santner told the New Zealand Herald. "I'd like to still be part of that."

While acknowledging the attractiveness of the financial package, Santner emphasized that the magnitude of forthcoming international fixtures outweighed the appeal of lucrative domestic cricket. He noted that even if he does not feature in every Test match, he believes he retains an important role within the squad structure.

"The offer was good, I'm not going to lie. They knew it would have to be a good offer for me to entertain it with contracting and what would come up," Santner explained. "I did entertain the thought of it, but coming back to what we've got coming up, even if I'm not going to play every game of Test cricket, I still feel like there's a role for me."

New Zealand is scheduled to host India for a full bilateral series beginning in October, featuring two Test matches, followed by away assignments against Australia.
