KORONADAL CITY — Sarangani province has suspended all in-person classes across all educational levels and suspended work in government offices on Friday, October 9, in response to Thursday's powerful earthquake.

The provincial government issued Memorandum Circular No. 2026-10-01 on Thursday afternoon, directing the closure to enable comprehensive safety inspections of infrastructure and facilities and to assess any structural damage caused by the quake.

The magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck parts of Mindanao on Thursday afternoon, prompting immediate precautionary measures across the affected region. The suspension applies to all government employees and educational institutions operating in the province.

The decision reflects standard post-earthquake protocols to ensure public safety. Authorities have not yet released preliminary damage reports, though the closure will allow engineers and inspection teams to evaluate the extent of impact on schools, government buildings, and other critical structures throughout the province.
