Sarawak air quality deteriorates as Serian records unhealthy pollution levels

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Air quality in parts of Sarawak has deteriorated, with the Serian District Police Headquarters registering an unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 151 at 9am Thursday.

The reading places the location in the unhealthy category, which typically ranges from 101 to 200 on the API scale. Residents in such areas are advised to limit outdoor activities and use appropriate respiratory protection when venturing outside.

Across the state, 63 areas recorded moderate API levels, indicating air quality acceptable for most individuals but potentially problematic for sensitive groups. The Malaysian Department of Environment continues to monitor air quality readings in real-time across the region.

Malaysian authorities regularly track air quality metrics to inform public health advisories. Residents are encouraged to monitor official air quality reports and take necessary precautions during periods of elevated pollution levels.
