Sarawak clarifies Bumiputera contractor policy scope and thresholds
Sarawak's deputy premier has moved to clarify the state's 30 percent Bumiputera contractor requirement, noting it applies only to large-scale projects rather than all government works.

The Sarawak state government's policy mandating a 30 percent Bumiputera contractor involvement applies exclusively to projects valued at RM100 million and above, Deputy Premier Uggah Embas said. His clarification addresses concerns that the requirement represented a blanket restriction across all state-funded initiatives. The policy targets major infrastructure and development ventures rather than routine or smaller government projects, Uggah explained. The distinction aims to balance objectives of supporting indigenous business participation with maintaining accessible opportunities across the contractor sector. State officials indicated the threshold-based approach allows flexibility in procurement practices while advancing Bumiputera representation in substantial government contracts.
