The Sarawak state government has mobilized four-wheel drive vehicles and boats to ensure continued healthcare delivery to interior communities following the suspension of regular flight services. The alternative transport arrangements underscore efforts to maintain medical access to remote areas that typically rely on air connectivity.
Deputy Public Health Minister Michael Tiang said the state is coordinating comprehensive responses to the service disruption, including emergency medical evacuations using air assets from other agencies. The deployment of ground and water-based transport represents a contingency measure to bridge the gap created by the suspension.
The interior regions of Sarawak have traditionally depended on regular flights for medical supplies, healthcare personnel deployment, and patient evacuations. The alternative logistics network aims to prevent disruptions to essential health services, particularly for communities in areas with limited road infrastructure.
State authorities have not provided specific timelines for the restoration of regular flight services. Officials continue coordinating with multiple agencies to ensure that residents in remote areas maintain access to emergency medical care and routine healthcare services during the interim period.
