Sarawak enjoys clear skies as peninsula grapples with air pollution

Sarawak's air quality showed marked improvement as of 9am on Monday, with ten locations recording moderate Air Pollutant Index (API) readings and three stations registering good air quality levels. The eastern Malaysian state's generally favourable conditions stood in sharp contrast to air pollution challenges affecting the peninsula.

Across Peninsular Malaysia, unhealthy air quality persisted at 41 monitoring stations, indicating a significant pollution event affecting major population centres and industrial areas. The disparity in air quality between the two regions reflects differing meteorological and environmental conditions.

The API readings in Sarawak suggest favourable wind patterns and atmospheric conditions dispersing pollutants effectively. In contrast, stagnant air masses and reduced visibility in peninsular areas point to localised pollution accumulation, potentially from haze, vehicular emissions, or industrial sources.

Authorities continue monitoring air quality across both regions, with real-time readings available to the public to guide health precautions. Residents in affected areas, particularly those with respiratory conditions, are advised to limit outdoor activities and use appropriate protective masks when venturing outside.
