Sarawak's infectious disease centre nears completion, opening slated for 2027

KUCHING — The Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) is approaching completion, with construction progressing to 90 per cent as of August 2026, according to state authorities. The facility remains on schedule to open its doors in 2027, marking a significant milestone for the state's public health infrastructure.

The centre has been designed to serve as a dedicated research and treatment facility for infectious diseases across Sarawak and the wider region. Upon opening, it is expected to enhance diagnostic capabilities and provide advanced care for patients with communicable diseases, while also supporting epidemiological research and disease surveillance efforts.

Once operational, the SIDC will position Sarawak as a key player in regional disease management and control strategies. The project represents a substantial investment in strengthening the state's health security framework and preparedness for potential disease outbreaks.

State officials have indicated that final touches to the facility are underway, with institutional planning and staffing preparations proceeding in parallel with construction completion.
