Sarawak schools to reopen Monday as haze conditions gradually improve

Educational institutions in 12 Sarawak districts have been cleared to reopen on Monday as air quality conditions show signs of improvement across the state. The decision comes after authorities monitored smoke pollution levels that have been affecting the region in recent days.

While overall air quality has improved, significant disparities remain across different areas. Serian district continues to face the most severe conditions, with air quality readings still classified as "very unhealthy." Four additional districts—names to be confirmed—are also experiencing "unhealthy" air quality levels, indicating that residents in these areas should continue to exercise caution.

The phased reopening reflects efforts by state authorities to balance educational continuity with public health concerns. Schools in less affected districts have been given the green light to resume normal operations, while those in areas with persistent poor air quality may face additional restrictions.

Residents, particularly in affected districts, are advised to monitor ongoing air quality updates and take appropriate precautions. Vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions should continue to limit outdoor exposure until air quality stabilises further.
